Mauldin Police Department Receives New Community Relations Tool

10/21/2013

In 2012 the Mauldin Police Department, using the Federal Government's 1033 Program, acquired a M1043A2/1045A2 HMMWV. This vehicle was then re-commissioned to serve the City of Mauldin for the purposes of community relations specifically focusing on the youth of Mauldin. The HMMWV, commonly referred to as a Humvee, is 1 of 281,000 vehicles produced for the United States Military.

The 1033 program, through the National Defense Authorization Act, provides decommissioned US Military Equipment to local law enforcement agencies at no cost. Some renovations were needed since it previously belonged to the military. With the assistance of local vendors, this vehicle has been transformed from serving its country to serving its community.
