The Office of Planning and Economic Development is responsible for long-range planning, annexation, business recruitment and assistance, and special projects related to these responsibilities. Important long-range planning activities include reviewing updating the City's Comprehensive Plan, working towards completion of the City's Downtown Master Plan, long-term transportation planning in and around the City, and managing special projects that complement these efforts including grant writing, construction oversight, and more.
Staff regularly meets with residents and businesses on annexation efforts in an effort to broaden Mauldin's services to nearby properties. City staff actively recruits small businesses, works with owners of vacant commercial properties to help recruit suitable retailers and restaurants, and helps small business owners find suitable locations within the city limits. Staff coordinates with Greenville Area Development Corporation to recruit major employers and manufacturers to the area.
