About the Mauldin Cultural Center
Started in 1936 and finished in 1937, the building served as a school for Mauldin children for many years. A few years ago the City of Mauldin purchased the building and the surrounding 13.9 acres of land. Re-purposing the building as a Cultural Center created an opportunity for more arts and culture in Mauldin. Today, in addition to hosting community events and activities, the Center houses the Mauldin Chamber of Commerce and is the meeting place for the Rotary Club, the Woodcarvers, the Lions Club, the Garden Club, the Upstate Young Marines, the Disabled Veterans, and the Greenville in Harmony Chorus.
Mauldin Cultural Center Foundation Board
The Mauldin Cultural Center Foundation Board is comprised of citizens and is working on many projects such as the auditorium renovation and master plan implementation including landscaping improvements.
Master Plan
In 2006 a plan was created to guide the development of the Cultural Center. In 2009 Clemson University’s Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture updated the master plan for the grounds surrounding the Mauldin Cultural Center. A development program for the site included an amphitheater, updated parking requirements, vehicle and pedestrian circulation, botanical gardens and arboretum, a veterans memorial, and site furnishings such as signage and benches. Students were directed to minimize the impact on existing trees and develop a tree replanting plan for the site, and establish visual and physical connections between the cultural center site and the surrounding community.
Students and professors conducted a detailed analysis of the Center and the land surrounding the facility to revise the master plan. Following public comment on four detailed plans, a graduate level landscape architecture student produced one recommended master plan. which was approved by both Mauldin City Council and the Mauldin Cultural Center Foundation Board. In August 2010, Arbor Engineering was engaged to design landscape improvements. The Board uses the plan as a tool to guide the development for the Mauldin Cultural Center.

Auditorium Renovation
Towards the rear of the Mauldin Cultural Center is an auditorium that served Mauldin Elementary students for many years as a cafeteria, assembly hall, and gymnasium. The Foundation Board has exciting plans to renovate the existing auditorium in order to house and promote cultural and community events. The renovated structure will provide a multipurpose auditorium and meeting space, an exhibition hall, and a performance theater which will be available to the citizens of Mauldin and the community.
Following a recommendation to select a firm to develop a design and renovation plan from the Foundation Board to Mauldin City Council, Neal Prince Architects was chosen to complete the Auditorium Renovation Project. Public meetings seeking citizen input began in December of 2008 and concluded in early 2010.
