Don Godbey

Don Godbey

Mayor Don Godbey has been a Mauldin resident for 17 years and has served on Mauldin City Council for the past 6 years. He was elected to the Mayoral office in November of 2007.

Originally from Petersburg, Illinois, Mayor Godbey has a professional background in Counseling. He earned both a Bachelors of Social Work and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Illinois. He is currently attending the Urban Land Institute to continue his education.

Mayor Godbey truly enjoys his job as Mayor because it allows him to have "involvement with the community." He is a member of the Mauldin Elementary School Improvement Council and the Rotary International. Throughout his time in Mauldin, Mayor Godbey has been a part of the Laurel Creek Elementary School PTA Board, the Knollwood Community Pool Board, and the GCPC Board of Deacons/Elders. Mayor Godbey was also involved in Band Boosters at Mauldin Middle School. He views his position as a "professional investment" through his community mental health work with children and families.

Mayor Godbey enjoys hiking, gardening, reading, and his 24 year marriage to wife Becky. They have two children who grew up in Mauldin and are now in college. Amy is a 19 year old University of South Carolina student. Chris is 22 years old and attends Clemson University.

Patricia Gettys

Seat 1
Patricia Gettys Councilwoman Patricia Gettys is serving her first term in office. She has lived in Mauldin for the past 22 years, except for 4 years spent living in France.

Patricia earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Clemson University in all areas of Special Education. She taught at Pendleton Elementary School for 10 years.

She is the chair of the Fire Standing Committee for Mauldin City Council. Mrs. Gettys is a board member for both the Salvation Army and the Boys and Girls Club. She is the Founder and current president of the non-profit Aquatic Alliance of Greater Greenville and the President of South Carolina Swimming Coaches Association.

Councilwoman Gettys has been married for 30 years to husband Terry. They have three sons Andrew, Mark, Keith and a daughter-in-law Katherine. All three sons graduated from Mauldin High School.

Bob Cook

Seat 2
Bob Cook Councilman Bob Cook has served twelve years on Mauldin City Council. He is a native of Greenville, South Carolina and was a member of Greenville County Council for twelve years. Mr. Cook is a graduate of Parker High School. He retired from his professional career and is now a public servant.

Councilman Cook serves on Mauldin City Council because he enjoys "being involved in making a better community, and planning for a prospering future." He is a member of the Recreation and Public Works standing committees. He is the chair of the Police standing committee.

Councilman Cook is married to Faye Cook and they have two daughters, Janice Johnson and Kim Black.

Gabe Hunter

Seat 3
Gabe Hunter Councilman Gabe Hunter has served on Mauldin City Council since 2006. He chairs the Planning and Economic Development standing committee and is a member of the Police and Finance/Policy and Personnel standing committees.

Originally from Florida, Councilman Hunter is the current manager of the Firehouse Casual Living Store in Greenville, South Carolina. He earned both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Master of Business Administration from Furman University. He also earned an Associate’s Degree from Manatee Jr. College.

A true public servant, Councilman Hunter serves on Mauldin City Council to "give back to my community and make a difference in my community." His industry experience allows him to assist in Mauldin’s "leadership and planned development."

Councilman Hunter has resided in Mauldin for the past nine years. He is married to Beverly Hunter.

James Kennedy

James Kennedy Councilman James Kennedy is the Chair of the Public Works standing Committee and also serves on the Fire Standing Committee. He holds seat number 4 and has served on the Mauldin City Council for many years. He enjoys being a public servant to his community.

Dale Black

Seat 5
Dale Black Councilman Dale Black was first elected to Mauldin City Council in 1989 and has called Mauldin home for thirty six years. He is a member of the Police and Fire standing committees and he chairs the Finance/Policy and Personnel standing committee.

Mr. Black is a Danville, Illinois native and attended both Parker High School and Greenville Technical College. He retired in 2000 from Southern Bell Telecommunications, AT&T & Lucient after 36 years of professional service with the three companies combined.

Councilman Black sees the value in making time invested choices for the City of Mauldin. Only after researching and "getting the facts" on a subject, will he cast his vote. He enjoys "serving the people of Mauldin" and strives "to make good honest decisions in every vote." He serves on Mauldin City Council to "have a voice in the direction that our good City is heading."

The City of Mauldin has been good to Councilman Black and he tries to "give back to the people some of the things that they have given" to him and his family. Councilman Black is a member of Mauldin First Baptist Church and a member of Wade Hampton #404 Masonic Lodge. He is married to Judy Black and together they have two daughters, Heather Black Hunter and Dana Black Moore.

Michael Reynolds

Seat 6
Michael Reynolds Councilman Michael Reynolds was elected to office in January of 2008 and has resided in Mauldin for the past three years. He is a member of the Finance/Policy and Personnel and Public Works standing committees. Reynolds also chairs the Recreation standing committee.

Councilman Reynolds obtained a degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of South Carolina. He is the owner of a real estate investment business and a native of Greenville, South Carolina.

Michael Reynolds is an "advocate for progressive thinking in all aspects of government" and firmly believes in the importance of equal representation of all demographics. Reynolds' forward thinking, as well as his entrepreneurial experience and education, combine to offer Mauldin City Council and Mauldin citizens with an objective perspective on policy and its impact on a community.

Councilman Reynolds and his wife Sarah welcomed their first child in December of 2008.
