Planning Commission
The Planning Commission exists to hear annexation issues and make recommendations to Mauldin City Council. The commission develops and carries out a continuing planning program for the physical, social, and economic growth of the City of Mauldin. They also take action on rezoning and amendment requests, preliminary and final subdivision requests, as well as home occupation and site plan submittals.
The commission consists of seven members who are nominated by City Council. To be eligible, one must be a Mauldin resident and can not serve more than six consecutive years. The Building and Zoning Board of Appeals hears requests for appeals, special exceptions, and variances on issues pertaining to the City’s zoning ordinance. The board consists of seven members. Members are nominated and appointed by Mauldin City Council into office. The term length is three years and the term will expire on July 1 of the third year. The Election Commission is responsible for certifying city elections held every two years. The Election Commission has three members that are nominated by City Council. Mauldin has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation (Link to www.arborday.org/programs/treeCityUSA/index.cfm) each year since 2006 and the Tree Board strives to conserve trees within the City of Mauldin. The board is also responsible for coordinating Arbor Day Activities. There are seven members of the Tree Board and all are nominated by City Council. Mauldin Cultural Center Foundation Board
The Mauldin Cultural Center Foundation Board exists to carry out the mission of the Mauldin Cultural Center. The restructured board works with Mauldin City Council on various projects for the Mauldin Community. The Mauldin Cultural Center Foundation Board has vacancies for two board members. Applications will be accepted until April 15, 2009. Prospective candidates should have the following: Strong interest in the visual and performin arts, Willingness to dedicate significant time and expertise to the growth and development of the Mauldin Cultural Center Foundation Board, and Established ties to the Mauldin and Upstate art, business and civic communities. US 276 Main Street Improvement Project Steering Committee
The US 276 Main Street Improvement Project Steering Committee is responsible for providing guidance and input towards the US 276 Main Street Improvement Project. Volunteers from the community and other stakeholders in the Main Street Hwy 276 Corridor project make up the committee. Consultants from LandDesign, a planning and landscape architecture firm, work with the committee and key staff members to develop a new and improved main street for the City of Mauldin. Several public meetings are held for citizen input. The final recommendations from the committee will be presented to Mauldin City Council in January 2009. Mauldin 2009 Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee
A Steering Committee of City Council members, key staff members, Planning Commission members, and citizens was formed in April 2008 to guide development of the Mauldin 2009 Comprehensive Plan. In addition, three Advisory Groups made up of citizens and staff members from regional planning agencies meet regularly to focus on the 10 elements of the Comprehensive Plan: population, housing, land use, natural resources, transportation, community facilities, priority investment, economic development, cultural resources, and city center development.
